For my second exhale, I wrote a research paper about the evolution of pop music over three decades.

We all know that music genres have evolved over time, but has pop music really changed? The analysis of three chart topping pop songs released in the last four decades reveals very little change. Pop is still popping. As examples of pop music from the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s, Total Eclipse of the Heart (Bonnie Tyler), As Long As You Love Me (Backstreet Boys), and “Always Remember Us This Way” (Lady Gaga) all have a deep meaning, include lots of figurative language, and have a clear theme (central idea of song). Hopefully, we can see an even better new set of rhythms, beats, and jams in the future.
